Ladies and Gentlemen,
Lower track temperatures (13c deg at the start of P1) reestablished Mercedes supremacy, no problem, with HAM dominating comfortably. But in this track with the largest straightline of the entire calendar (almost 1.2k) is pretty evident that Ferrari power is matching Mercedes power. The highest numbers registered in the speed traps were Ferrari-engined cars. The next interesting data came from the Renault-powered Red Bull & Toro Rosso machines beating the Williams, particularly in P2 where RIC ended 4th fastest in the softer-compound simulations. Red Bull switched brake supplier and the new stoppers are nothing but problems, but it’s clear that Renault has delivered the promised power upgrades, although the war of words between both parties continues, now Red Bull supreme boss Mateschitz adding his threats to quit F1 altogether.
If Toro Rosso continues to surprise everyone with a car regularly capable to make it to Q3 perhaps the biggest eye opener of the day was BUT showing up in 10th place in P2
