Ladies and Gentlemen,
Team orders and pitstop mistakes were the highlight of the day. Red Bull dominated, Mercedes was second best. In the name of team interests their drivers were ordered to hold position after the last stops, Nico obey to gave Lewis a place in the rostrum; Sebastian did not and stole Mark’s win. We hadn’t seen such a tense and unhappy podium since the days when the Ferrari-Schumacher-Todt machine manipulated race results. Lotus was not in contention and Ferrari accepted their huge mistake by keeping Alonso out with a broken front wing.
Rodrigo won big in Malaysia, his triple 3-pointer for 10 points was double the group’s average. Santiago was second with 9 points, the only one scoring with 5 of the 6 top drivers. Maria, Fredrik, Joe & Matias did pretty well with 2 gold scores (same as Santi) tied next at 8 points. The rest of us were below the Black Horse/Starting Grid (7 points); we are talking 17 associates in the 3-4-5-6 point range. Ouch.
We were closely divided between Alonso (9) and Vettel (11) to take the win; as many as 7 of you predicted HAM’s first podium and apart from a couple of Massa in 5th that was all we got today. Second, fourth & Sixth place columns ended up empty. Let’s start getting used to the single-digit marks for the 2013 season….
After 2 races Rodrigo is now in firm command of the Championship with 20 points, Santiago is on his hells at 18. Further back there’s a triple tie for third at 15 points between Joe, Lou and I with Alberto & Curro one behind and Maria, Fredrik, Matias, Manbos and IanM two behind. The red light is carried by 2011 Champ Ian but in this early stage there are 10 colleagues within 3 points of last place. No reason to panic…yet.
Our next appointment comes in 3 weeks for another double-header starting with the Chinese GP-12-14 April and the Bahrain GP 19-21 April.
We’ll hear a lot in the days to come about today’s controversy, I have the feeling Red Bull has created a monster in his star driver…
‘See you’ again Thursday April11th
Cheers
Cato
