Ladies and Gentlemen,
Racing doesn’t get more intense than this. It was a thrilling GP, a nail biter full of changes, spectacular action and wheel to wheel dicing up and down the field. An extraordinarily tough race, 71 laps on the edge of the knife with no room for error in the most treacherous conditions for us to appreciate the unbelievable talent of the best drivers in the world. Button won the battle, Vettel the war by 3 points with a charge from last to 6th, his third consecutive crown.
Manbos has won the final round of this amazing season with a triple gold score -2nd-3rd-6th – to reach 11 points and leaving the rest of us with only single digit marks. His third win gives him the most number of GP victories of 2012. Closest to him were Joe & Rocco in 9 points, this last one sealing the title in fine style (or we should say Joe Jr.)
Our overwhelming favorite for victory was the unluckiest driver of the year, Hamilton. He had 19 of our votes, the remaining 3 going to eventual winner Button (Joe, Alberto & Fernando). Other 3 members forecast Vettel in his final 6th spot (Manbos, Ricky and me); our best paying position was Webber in 5th (7 of you) and Alonso in second (6 of us). Nobody got the fifth place (Hulkenberg) and only one, Manbos scored with f-Massa in 3rd to mark the difference in Brazil. (He is not driving like f-Massa anymore...)
The new CFA Champion is Rocco, or the power behind the throne little Joe. Their 17 points on top of the standings are the largest winning margin on record (160-143) and their perfect score in the Indian GP has made history. With his win Manbos tied Fernando in points but he takes second overall in number of GP wins (3-2). This is now his second runner up result after a brilliant rookie season last year, an impressive record indeed. For Fernando this was a remarkable comeback after a disappointing 2011 when he was the defending champion. Uwe finished 4th even though he was leading the charts most of the time; he is the colleague most consistently in the leading group year after year. Rodrigo closed his best season clinching 5th overall ahead of Joe, who may not be too happy with 6th despite fighting for the top at different stages. Maria is 7th after a good season of mixing with the leaders for the longest, her best campaign ever. Former Champion Santiago hasn’t found his older winning form yet but in this company 8th place is an achievement. I was able to jump to 9th in the very last round which made me very proud; breaking in the 10 top was hard work and leaves me with a sense of accomplishment, you guys are good!. That left a triple-draw for the last of the coveted top 10 final positions between Tim, Matias and Curro, and that honour went to Tim on number of GP wins (2 + 1 tie). Notwithstanding an important last effort Ian Mac couldn't avoid last place; rookies are supposed to struggle at this level among the best in the planet (forget Manbos’s 2011) so ending only one point behind experienced Erik (108-107) has provided him leverage to avoid relegation for another opportunity next year. Ricky? No, he’s not in this bracket this time, I told you it was going to take time but now he is progressing (18th place).
Congratulations to Rocco and 11 year son old Joe, theirs was a well deserved Championship victory. Accolades keep coming from all members in our private facebook page.
The bad news is that winter has now truly arrived, dark days lay ahead until we are back alive again next March. But don’t despair, there’s still a ray of hope in the fabulous Race of Champions by our colleague Fredrik in Bangkok 14-16 December that will keep us warm for now.
There is still so much to celebrate, if you allow me I will get back to you in the next day or so with The Roll of Honour 2012 reviewing our achievements (?) for the season. We are not done yet!
Cheers
Cato
