Abu Dhabi GP 2012 - Results - Ricardo's first

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A thriller of a race and a popular victory for Raikkonen, the eighth different winner of the season. Alonso was second to keep his Championship hopes very much alive; Vettel came twice from the back to an incredible third place to keep his lead in the standings. It doesn’t matter who you cheer for, this was a race that pleased everyone, and it was nice to finally see Kimi and Lotus fulfilling their potential.

After a long absence Ricardo is back in the winner’s circle, he is our 11th different winner this year. His marks were impressive in a day when everyone except Matias scored 6 points or less. Ricardo hit 3 triples with 3-4-5 places for 10 points, one ahead of double winner Matias who got 2 golds in 4th & 5th. After that we were pretty terrible, only Maria, Lou & Ricky brilliantly predicted Alonso in second, another four had Maldonado in 5th and our best result came from Button in 4th by 7 of you. Nobody voted for Raikkonen to score his first victory after coming back from retirement or remotely imagined Kobayashi finishing 6th. But of course the highlight of the day was Ricardo forecasting Vettel’s brilliant drive through the field to 3rd to take the spoils.

Championship leader Rocco had his worst showing of the year, no matter, his advantage remains a healthy 12 points over second place Fernando (139-127). Uwe recovered third place from Manbos (126-124), Maria is back in fifth pushing Joe to sixth (122-121); this is Rodrigo best season ever, he is 7th one point ahead of Curro (119-118) , Champ Ian is 9th (117) and Santi has now breaking into the prestigious top 10 (116). Ricardo’s victory has taken him far from the relegation zone where he was troublingly close just a fortnight ago, same for Sebastian. The red light continues in rookie Ian’s sole possession (95) but Erik (98) and Alberto (99) are still worryingly close...

In two weeks we are going to the new Texas track for the inaugural US GP (16-18 Nov) where a number of CFA colleagues will be in attendance. A week later (23-25 Nov) the grand finale will take place in Brasil, and the way this is going the World Championship will still have to be decided between Alonso and Vettel, without a doubt two of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport.

What a season we are enjoying, are we lucky or what?

Let’s connect again in two weeks

Cheers

Cato
