Ladies and Gentlemen,
And then there were three...
Seventeenth round of the season coming up in Abu Dhabi this weekend, the mother of all Mickey Mouse circuits with its spectacular evening-to-night changing scenery.
Vettel (2009/10) Hamilton (2011) & RAI (2012) are the drivers that had won in Abu Dhabi, they are also the only ones to have started from the pole position, but only one race was won from the pole, that was Vettel in 2010. Raikkonen’s victory from 4th place on the grid last year was the first time the winner had started off the front row.
With the title already in Vettel’s pocket, the attention centers in the fight for second in the Drivers’ & Constructors’ Champiosnhips between Mercedes, Ferrari, Lotus and their drivers, and of course to see if Vettel can equal Schumacher’s 2004 seven wins in a row, the best run of success of the modern era. The record of nine was set by Alberto Ascari in 1952-53. Ferrari can set a record for most consecutive point finishes dating back to the 2010 German GP. They equalled McLaren’s run of 64 in a row in India last weekend.
Our CFA winner last year was Ricardo with 10 points/3 golds. It was a bad outing for our expert panel, particularly for the leaders of the point standings as they stalled with as little as 3 points in a day when nobody got more than 6 points except the winner and Matias in second (9). In fact none of us was able to forecast Raikkonen winning the race.
I’ll get back to you tomorrow with the latest stuff from the first round of practice sessions. Be prepared to do your best, time is running out...
Cheers
