U.S. GP 2012 - QF

by Cato Batista, 17/11/2012 1:21:37

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Red Bulls are the fastest in day 1. VET was a massive 1.5 secs ahead of the pack in P1 and 7 tenths in front of teammate WEB and ALO in P2. He needed only four laps to establish the top mark after losing 25 minutes of the session with a water leak. They were supposed to have tyre warm up problems in temperatures below the 18s but instead they’d found adhesion from the out lap while every else are struggling -McLaren among the big names- to get both compounds up to working temperatures; they are too hard. Pirelli is providing hard-prime / medium-option tyres and they already acknowledging the compound choice for this track was too conservative.  There’s no degradation and little wear, this will be another 1-stop race.

P1- VET (1/38.125) HAM ALO BUT  WEB MAS  HUL  KOB  ROS PER

P2 – VET (1.37.718) WEB  ALO  HAM  BUT  MAS  ROS  SEN  KOB  SCH (Lotus 11-12)

In the opening session the surface was too new and green, drivers were comparing it to sliding in the rain. From this early stage the promise of a challenging track for the drivers is becoming a reality. The hairpin at the end of the start-finish line has produced its intention of being extremely hard to judge, its blind entry at the top of a rise is unforgiving and who knows how the charging field is going to survive past the blast from the green lights onto this blind-sharp left corner one. The next section, corners 3-6 ...

Abu Dhabi GP 2012 - Results - Ricardo's first

by Cato Batista, 05/11/2012 0:24:35

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A thriller of a race and a popular victory for Raikkonen, the eighth different winner of the season. Alonso was second to keep his Championship hopes very much alive; Vettel came twice from the back to an incredible third place to keep his lead in the standings. It doesn’t matter who you cheer for, this was a race that pleased everyone, and it was nice to finally see Kimi and Lotus fulfilling their potential.

After a long absence Ricardo is back in the winner’s circle, he is our 11th different winner this year. His marks were impressive in a day when everyone except Matias scored 6 points or less. Ricardo hit 3 triples with 3-4-5 places for 10 points, one ahead of double winner Matias who got 2 golds in 4th & 5th. After that we were pretty terrible, only Maria, Lou & Ricky brilliantly predicted Alonso in second, another four had Maldonado in 5th and our best result came from Button in 4th by 7 of you. Nobody voted for Raikkonen to score his first victory after coming back from retirement or remotely imagined Kobayashi finishing 6th. But of course the highlight of the day was Ricardo forecasting Vettel’s brilliant drive through the field to 3rd to take the spoils.

Championship leader Rocco had his worst showing of the year, no matter, his advantage remains a healthy 12 points over second place Fernando (139-127). Uwe recovered third place from Manbos (126-124), Maria is back in fifth ...

Abu Dhabi GP 2012 - Race

by Cato Batista, 04/11/2012 3:26:38

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It was total domination by Hamilton, he was 3 and a half tenths faster than second place Webber and still had some in reserve. Vettel had brake problems in P3 losing valuable time in preparation for QF,  his RB8 wasn’t the car 'on rails’ of lately on his way to third on the grid (he hit the wall in Q1). Alonso couldn’t improve his personal lap times in any of the final QF sessions to finish seventh, he admitted he couldn’t extract another drop of performance out of the Ferrari. Maldonado made another surprising appearance near the front this time in fourth place just ahead of Raikkonen, the Lotus looking like the3rd best car of the lot.

It was another difficult QF for us to decode: Fredrick was the best of us hitting a 1-2 for 2 points, same as Lou & Tim (1-3), another 9 colleagues pick up single points.

The grid for tomorrow:

HAM  WEB  VET*  MAL  RAI  BUT  ALO  ROS  MAS  GRO  (*see bottom)

If Red Bull introduced 3 stages of upgrades to the RB8 during the last 3 races, Ferrari is now using the parts designed and produced since they shot down their wind tunnel and moved to Toyota’s facility in Cologne:  front wing end plates (introduced in India) and one week later they are testing a new aero package – front wing, turning vanes (vertical pieces between the front wheels and the monocoque) and most importantly, rear wing. The biggest problem with the F2012 is that ...
