Italian GP 2012 - Preview

by Cato Batista, 07/09/2012 6:49:30

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Our opinions from the accident at the start in Spa had been radically opposed. Some in our expert panel asked for even a bigger punishment for Grosjean for spoiling the race at the best track on the calendar while some others consider it as part of racing. This was the 7th time that Grosjean has been involved in a starting collision this year which seems to weight on the decision. Where most of us agreed is that if Hamilton was the culprit there wasn’t going to be any action by the Stewards, as usual...

By that’s behind now, we have another GP at another legendary circuit starting tomorrow, and that’s a new opportunity for redemption after our disastrous outing last Sunday (except for Manbos and Carlos of course). Interesting to see the pre-race odds by the bookmakers in England: the best bet according to them is HAM at 3/1, then at 9/2 BUT, RAI & VET, next ALO at 5/1 (compare MAS at 50/1 in the same car!). Then comes WEB 12/1, tied next at 33/1 ROS, SCH & PER, the Mexican better that teammate KOB   40/1.  Let’s see how this scenario evolves after the practise and qualifying sessions. Five different teams have won the last five editions; Button has been second the last 3 times in a row; Hamilton hasn’t been on the podium since his first appearance in 2007; Webber has never finished better than sixth.

I have good news to tell you. We have a new section in our CFA website to make it even more comprehensive and I should proudly say one it is of the best in ...

Belgium GP 2012 - Results - Guzman for the second time

by Cato Batista, 03/09/2012 7:09:20

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The pile up at the start of the race deprived us from what was going to be a great show, although Button had the car to win it anyways. Vettel made 9 spots from his QF position to finish second and close the gap on  Alonso in the standings to 18 points, but Aalonso was rather lucky to escape injury from the accident. Without 5 of the top 10 starters the final results were... even worse than usual, let’s say.

With a group average of 4.1 points, Manbos’s victory with 8 points must get some kind of credit. He and Carlos (7 points) were the only members with two 3-point scores in 1st and 6th. This was his second GP win of 2012.The best we got after that were 5 points by 3 of you (Ian, Lou & Uwe) and from there all the way down to 2 (Fredrik, Ricky & me) and even we attained the all time dubious mark of scoring a single point (by Maria...blame it on Grosjean & Maldonado).

The bulk of the points came from the smart pick of Button to win the race with 15 votes. Raikkonen yielded three golds in 3rd place (Erik, Ricardo & Tim) and the winning choice was Webber in 6th (Manbos & Carlos). We got lots of single points in the second-place column (12 Raikkonen) but no golds, same as the 4th & 5th positions that ended up blank.

The top of the standings remained unchanged with Rocco`s lead now reduced 3 points to Uwe for 1st & 2nd (83-80); Manbos`s victory sent him on triple tie for third ...

Belgium GP 2012 - Race

by Cato Batista, 02/09/2012 5:24:12

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Another QF session full of unexpected results.  With very little practice time available McLaren chose 2 different rear wing configurations for their drivers: Button ended up 0.8 sec faster than Hamilton (8th) to claim his first pole in 3 years and his first for McLaren.  The Saubers are flying with KOB in second and Perez in 5th. Maldonado is always an enigma in his Williams, this time he turn up third best but he collected a 3 grid position penalty (for blocking Hulkerberg in Q2) thus moving Raikkonen to third. The sister Lotus is 9th, Grosjean confessing his lack of familiarity with the track. Alonso was fast in every session but finished only  6th ; Webber was 7th but will collect a gearbox change penalty (5 positions) and 10th was DiResta pushing Vettel to 11th in the last moments of Q3. The biggest disappointment? Mercedes & Red Bull. Schumacher is 13, Rosberg will start 23th after a 5 gearbox change-penalty; Vettel admits the car ‘cant’ go any faster’, he was 4 tenths slower than Webber.
For us this was another lost opportunity: zero point across the board in QF, nothing new, actually it’s the second time we went blank this season (as in Monaco).
After penalties were issued at the end of qualifying (MAL & WEB) this is the grid for tomorrow:
BUT  KOB  RAI  PER  ALO  MAL  HAM  GRO  DIR  VET – WEB 12th
Passing will not be an issue in Spa. The DRS activation zone is set for the Kemmel straight between corners 4 & 5, but ...
