This is your official invitation to participate in the 2012 CFA Championship.
This is the mail we had been waiting for a long long time. Four days from today the Grand Prix cars will be let loose in Australia and our life will be at last restored to its normality!
The magic moment when we’re looking forward to begin a new F1 campaign is finally here. And there are good reasons for our expectations running high in anticipation for the upcoming season with 6 world champions on the grid and the possibility of several teams and drivers in position to challenge for wins. The general view after pre season testing is that everybody is concealing their weapons and we could be up for a few surprises this weekend.
In general terms the start of the season points out to a Red Bull-McLaren monopoly for the podium positions with Mercedes-Ferrari-Lotus (former Renault) in equal footing behind those two.
But if the competition looks as good or better than usual the current generation of F1 cars are the ugliest in the history of Grand Prix racing. With the exception of McLaren the front end treatment adopted by everybody else has brought the worst looking cars you can possibly imagine. In all fairness there were not options left for the designers given the new regulation that forced the front end to be lowered in case of accidents. The rule-makers are looking to avoid cars taking off in rear end collisions (remember Webber flying above Kovalainen?) or in case of a side impact where the nose could hit the side of another car where there’s less ...
Ladies and Gentlemen:
He is unstoppable. He is running more downforce, has less horsepower, his chassis blisters the tires more than the others in this temperatures, but still Vettel conquered his 10th pole this year, 13th straight and first in Monza for Red Bull, and had almost half a second to spare even though he was all crossed-up at the Ascari chicane in his final flyer! We are witnessing one of those special times when a driver is at the very top of his game.
Our QF results were above our standard bad average, many ones and twos with only Ricky scoring plenum for huge 4 points in his cause. There were already many changes on top of the standings, but let’s wait until after the race to get to it.
The grid for tomorrow:
VET HAM BUT ALO WEB MAS PET SCH ROS SEN
With the double DRS activation zone (main straight and the shorter, narrow run between Lesmos and Ascari) the drivers concede that grid position will not be decisive for the race, overtaking will be possible and then there is tire management and its strategy to make up in race day. The key could lay in the white tires, the slower medium compound that they try to use as little as possible but that is providing the longer and most consistent degradation. It was no accident that most of the P3 this morning was concentrated in optimizing the primes. If the yellow options have a useful life of 10-12 and drop before a maximum of 15 laps, the top teams will have a problem implementing a 3 stopper for the 53-lap race. Among the top ten we can already see alternative strategies, like ROS starting in primes and ...

Italian GP 2011 - QF

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Two issues emerged as top priority for the teams after the first round of practice sessions today: the soft tires are a lot faster than the medium, and with the double DRS zones for Sunday a difficult decision has to be made: either set up the car for QF or for the race...
With warmer temperatures for the weekend the difference in laptimes between the 2 compounds seems to be increasing, that’s making the teams to be very careful with the number of soft sets they use. Best example was ROS who was 22nd but save all his option tire sets for Saturday and Sunday. But the biggest challenge will be to set up minimum wing on the car to take full advantage of DRS-open qualifying rules or to optimize it for race day when DRS is only allowed in 2 designated zones. This could well result in the top cars on the grid being easy to get pass during the race...
McLaren was the car to have on Friday, only Vettel got on top on the last moment of P2 when Hamilton run into traffic in his last lap. Laptimes where slower on the second session, something we rarely see.
P1- HAM (1.23.865) BUT VET WEB SUT PET ALO MAS PER ALG
P2- VET (1.24.010) HAM SCH MAS ALO WEB BUT PER KOB SEN
Times from P2 could be more noteworthy than the earlier session when teams were doing short runs for settings evaluation and systems check. Most of the important testing including long runs and tire set up were done on P2 . (surprised to find Schummi 3rd?)
The question is: Mercedes-power vs. Red Bull aero balance – Hamilton vs Vettel...This could be the best and last chance this year to stop ...
