European GP 2016 - QF

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Mercedes power reigns supreme in Baku taking the top 5 spots in the faster FP2 session. In terms of drivers it’s HAM showing amazing confidence around this tricky, dangerous place. As expected the Mercedes cars are handling their tyres better than anybody in the warmer temperatures, Lewis was faster in every one of the 3 compounds tested today, and in the single-lap simulation in the red-walled super-soft (the softer for this race) he was almost 7 tenths ahead of Nico. PER, BOT and HUL were by far the best of the rest. Ferrari had MGU-K issues on both cars but its drivers were not comfortable having several moments before their session was cut short. RIC was the first casualty of the day hitting the Tecpro barrier at the exit of turn 15, his mechanics doing an amazing job repairing it on time for FP2. Teammate VER sat most of the first session with an oil leak but recovered nicely in 7th in FP2. The Renault-powered cars falling short on top speed in the 2 ...
European GP 2016 - Preview by Cato Batista, 01/07/2016 22:07:59 The eighth round of the season is coming up starting tomorrow in Azerbaijan (is that how you spell it?). The circuit, design by Bernie’s favourite Arq.Tilke (who else?) winds through the downtown of capital city Baku. It’s 6kms in length, only Spa is longer, it’s made of a huge straight and many many 90 degree corners, it will be the fastest street circuit with lap times expected to be close to the 2 minutes mark. One issue stands out: between corners 8 to 11 the track is narrower than the width of 2 F1 cars. And then comes corner 15, which will be very fast and without run-off area. Because it’s surrounded by concrete walls, this will be for sure the most expensive race of the season in terms of car repairs… Going into the unknown, what teams do to attack a new circuit as unforgiving as this, is to spend the first day of practice with very high downforce loads, and once both car and driver start finding the limits, engineers start dialing less downforce until they reach the minimum possible drag for top speed in the long main straight. The final set up in layouts like ...
Canadian GP 2016 -Results - Multiple tie, close scores, Fernando is the winner by Cato Batista, 01/07/2016 22:04:44 Canadian GP 2016 - Race by Cato Batista, 01/07/2016 22:03:06
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Fifth Canadian GP victory for HAM, but he was very close to be beaten by VET if not for Ferrari picking the wrong strategy. Like a rocket VET was sensational grabbing the lead at the start, at the same time ROS ran out of pavement when conveniently HAM held the racing line dropping the Championship leader to 10 place -eventually he finished 5th. The third step of the podium was for BOT, a deserved reward after a fabulous drive. The Williams didn’t really belong among the top teams, particularly ahead of two Red Bull, one Ferrari and one Mercedes. Young VER was cool and collected holding 4th place under pressure from teammate RIC, RAI and then ROS. He was on his way to third if not for BOT spirited drive -and Williams right strategy. RAI closed the top 6, it was a lacklustre performance from one of the crowd’s favorites.

pole. ROS was a blink behind but his Benz bottomed out missing the
entry in corner 1 (what a great place to watch F1!) in his last effort
and had to concede to his teammate. Up to that point they were
separated by only a 62 thousandths of a second. To get his Ferrari in
third place VET was frankly...heroic, second row should’d been for Red
Bull ...
